Matrox and Gallery Collaborate on New Broadcast Video Ingest Platform
AMSTERDAM, IBC2011 – September 8, 2011 — Matrox® Video Products Group and Gallery today announced a next-generation broadcast ingest platform that combines Gallery SIENNA PictureReady software running on a Mac® mini with a Thunderbolt™ technology enabled Matrox MXO2™ I/O device to deliver a high-performance, reliable video ingest solution in a compact form factor.
SIENNA consists of eight functional modules, each performing a specific role to create an end-to-end digital media infrastructure for news, sports, and multicam production. Based natively on Apple® QuickTime® and Mac OS X, SIENNA provides a complete broadcast workflow with Ingest, Playout, Automation, Asset Management, MOS Integration, Archive, and Editing with Apple Final Cut Pro® or Adobe® Premiere® Pro. Matrox MXO2 devices provide broadcast-quality video and audio capture, monitoring, output, and accelerated H.264 encoding for use with leading editing and content creation applications.
"SIENNA Ingest and Playout had typically been based on Apple's XServe® with PCIe capture cards, but with the demise of the XServe, we began the search for a viable replacement platform," said Mark Gilbert, CTO at Gallery. "With Matrox's new Thunderbolt technology enabled MXO2 device and a rack-mounted quad-core Intel® Core™ i7 Mac mini, we now have a cheaper, smaller, cooler, and more efficient platform that has proven to be completely reliable."
"Gallery has a long history of providing Mac-based solutions to broadcasters worldwide," said Alberto Cieri, senior director of sales and marketing at Matrox. "Their choice of our Thunderbolt technology enabled Matrox MXO2 device for their new broadcast ingest system builds on our vision of taking audio/video connectivity outside the computer to provide video professionals with portable, future-proof solutions."
A live demonstration of the MXO2 devices featuring Thunderbolt technology will be featured at IBC2011 on the Matrox stand 7.B29. The Matrox MXO2 and SIENNA combination will be demonstrated by Gallery on the EMC Isilon stand 7.H10.
